Wrappers switched from paper to plastic, WHY?

I’ve been ordering boxes of Ritual chocolates constantly. Suddenly they started wrapping the chocolate itself in a sealed plastic container. I emailed Ritual and asked what gives and that I don’t want my chocolate cooking with plastic on its way to me. They said they ran out of paper and would be switching back.

Months of orders later and not only did they never switch back to paper, but now they have decorative plastic, which looks like it’s very much intentional and not because they ran out of paper.

Hi, we have switched to a new inner wrapper that is recyclable. As we've moved to this new material we have had to test new designs and had to make sure to use a material that is recyclable. We now have a recycle symbol on the packaging. Thanks for your patience as we change our process to be smoother and use eco conscious materials.

I love the single origin bars. All of them are different, all of them are great.
